Here's the Sniffen & Kniffen story
http://www.geocities.com/sniffen42/KniffenSniffenStory.htm
That last name gose a long ways like in 1600s. Kniffen came from Kniveton, Derbyshire, England. I think when George Knitfon comes to Rye Westchester County, New York, USA it change to Kniffen. In 1900s they drop the 'K'. So, It is Niffen. So, The name got change a couple of times.
George Knitfon & Mary Whelpley got married in England back in 1644. So, They probably came to USA between 1640s - 1670s. They had 7 children. It dont showed much on George Knitfon past. Mary Whelpley dad & mom is Henry Whelpley & ??? Sarah. They had 2 kids or 3 more kids.
My line Jonathan Kniffen Sr. line moved to Pennsylvania & Ohio. My ancester James Eliphalet Kniffen who married to Elizabeth Moss in Schuyler, Ill moved to much. They went Quincy, Illinois 1840s & Hunt, Texas & Fulton County, Illinois 1870s & Franklin County, Arkansas. I learned there's was alot of "Benjamin Kniffen" in the past.
---------------------------
Its like a puzzle with the Henry Whelpley family. Henry is from England.
The only ones I have in my family tree as Henry Whelpley kids is Mary who married to George Knitfon/Kniffen.Nathan who died at sea.
Thier are some kids like Sarah, Jonathan and Rebecca Whelpley. Jonathan Whelpley is a half brother to Mary Whelpley.
